In which I take my Six of Crows obsession up a notch:
Major Project 2
For Major Project 2, I chose to analyze the book duology Six of Crows and its film adaptation into the Netflix series Shadow and Bone. I focused in on one relationship - Nina and Matthias - with the goal of examining how their story demonstrates the triumph of human connection and love over prejudice. This project was formatted as a mini podcast episode.

Revision Plan
Similarly to my Major Project 1, my Major Project 2 also started out way too long. I entered into the peer review session with a seven-page script, not nearly finished with what I was planning to talk about. In the peer review, I got some really helpful feedback: I was trying to cover too much of a broad topic, and because of that, I didn’t have specific enough analysis. While I was disappointed that I probably wouldn’t be able to talk about everything I wanted to, I did agree that I was trying to be too broad, and the peer review was really helpful in guiding me to hone in on one relationship in Six of Crows. I adjusted my critical takeaway to be more specific to my new topic, and I was able to revise my script in a way that was much clearer and more aligned with my central takeaway. In my final instructor feedback, I was told that I should try to slow down and dive even deeper into the scenes I was analyzing. While I think this was difficult to do in my project, just because of time constraints, I totally agree that this is something I should do if I were to revise and expand this project.

If I were to extend this podcast to a full episode length, I would go more into detail when analyzing the scenes. I’d want to delve into each mode that was in action in the scenes, especially in the show, and discuss how those different modes worked together. For example, in the scenes when Nina and Matthias are bantering back and forth, I could discuss more deeply their dialogue by discussing the actual language they use and why they use it (like mentioned in my instructor feedback). Going deeper into the multimodal analysis would help my audience to better understand my discussion points and my critical takeaway.
Additionally, I’d discuss more Nina and Matthias scenes that I didn’t have time to hit in the original podcast, like the scene where she turns him in as a “slaver.” There are many more key scenes that I couldn’t fit in before, and discussing them would help me draw a more complete picture of Nina and Matthias’s story.

Finally, I’d spend more time getting to understand Audacity and all the technology that goes with recording a podcast. I would try my best to download the proper add-ons so I could input my mp4 files directly, and get a better recording setup for a better sound quality. I’d also find music that matches a bit better to my theme. By improving my technology usage, I’d improve the quality and enjoyability of my podcast.

Another Nina and Matthias scene I'd like to discuss, when Nina turns Matthias over.
